40-year-old man kills his 78-year-old mother after argument over potatoes

A 40-year-old man in Wolverhampton, UK allegedly killed his 78-year-old mother after an argument over potatoes he was making for Christmas dinner.

Mark Jennens appeared in court on July 12 facing charges of manslaughter.

According to the prosecution, Mark attempted to forcefully evict his mother Hazel from the house they shared after she criticized his efforts at preparing dinner on December 24, 2015.

As a result of his action, his mother, who had lung cancer as well as osteoporosis, fractured her hip and required surgery.

She passed away from bronchopneumonia while recovering in hospital in January 2016.

According to the transcript of the emergency call Mark made, he said: "After being told I'm stupid for trying to sort Christmas dinner out I just lost it and went to chuck her out of the door."

Prosecutors argued that Mark's attempt to evict his mother directly resulted in her hospitalization, surgery and death. The trial is ongoing.
