- The group of elders have promised to vote for his rival Jack Ranguma who is seeking reelection
- The move has presented a big challenge to Nyong’o who is seeking to be the next Kisumu County governor on an ODM ticket
Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o has suffered a major blow after one of the most important groups pledged to support his rival and not him.
Nyong’o who seeks to become the next Kisumu County governor on an ODM ticket will have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a working plan that will help him floor the incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma.
This is after a group of elders from his own Seme clan turned their back on him and pledged to support Jack Ranguma’s reelection.
Speaking at a press briefing in Wangarot ,Kisumu on Friday, July 14 2017,the elders said Jack Ranguma’s administration has helped people in the sub-county by rolling out numerous projects, unlike during the time when Nyong’o was the area Member of Parliament.
"We have witnessed the construction of modern ECD classrooms and employment of numerous ECD tutors which had not been seen before," said Philip Oiro, who is the group’s vice chairman.
"Hanging on the facts we have stated, we wholeheartedly support Ranguma for a second term as governor," Samuel Orwa, the group's treasurer, added.
