Kamau was among Cabinet Secretaries who were purged from the Uhuru cabinet following pressure on the president to act on corruption.

The former CS won big in the Court of Appeal where he had launched a petition to have the charges thrown out on grounds that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) was not well constituted when it took up his case.

Judges Kathurima M’inoti, Milton Makhandia and William Ouko quashed the criminal proceedings on that technicality.
