A Canadian family never expected to find another family living in their walls.

It was a rather huge family, though. A colony of bees resides in the home of Louise and Michael Dawe in Cambridge, Ontario.

We all have that fear of getting stung by bees. Imagine the look on this couple’s face when they found the colony complete with some larvae for the next generation!

At first they thought the problem was containable. But then they found out that the walls actually housed about 50,000 bees.

And the colony was growing by day!

In just a month, the couple’s home is expected to house about 80,000 bees!

The family had to seek help from beekeeper Dave Schuit, who owns Saugeen Country Honey in Elmwood.

Dave helped relocate the bee to his farm. But he couldn't bring the queen with them.

"The strategy is to try to take the bees out in a healthy manner. We're trying to save the hive, save the queen and find it a new home out of his home," he explained.

Dave used smoke to put the bees in a drowsy and non-aggressive state. Then, the entire hive was soaked with a liquid syrup that distracted the bees and prompted them to groom both themselves and the other hives.

Once the bees were in a drowsy state, they started peeling off the wall and exposed the hive. Dave took the honeycomb and the house wall was sealed and replaced properly.

The couple is grateful the bee hive has been removed as the liquid leaking out from it could have damaged the house’s electrical wiring.

How would you handle the situation if your were in it?
