The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has given political parties up to Sunday May 21, 2017 to correct all the anomalies in their respective lists.

At the same time, the Commission has invited all candidates to a pre-nomination meeting on Tuesday, May 23 at counties and constituencies across the country.
These meetings would be attended by all the candidates from various political parties, independent candidates and the commission's returning officers.

Among the issues to be discussed according to chairman Wafula Chebukati include nomination requirements, qualifications and scheduling of nomination papers presentation to the IEBC.

“The Commission wishes to inform political parties that they have up to Sunday, May 21, 2017 to attend to all the corrections,” said Chebukati.
As it was about to finalise its final report, the Commission found a number of issues that require all concerned parties to address immediately including missing names for running mates for presidential and gubernatorial seats; names of candidates appearing in more than one party, missing gender information and dates of birth among others.

The Commission wants political parties to correct these anomalies to allow it to finalise the list for onward transmission to the Returning Officer on Monday, May 22, 2017.

Other anomalies include; missing national identification numbers for candidates; candidates’ photos, inconsistencies in national ID information and missing party symbols.
Some parties also did not upload signatures of their signatories.

Parties are also advised to check the Commission's website to know the venues of the pre-nomination meetings.
“Further, the Commission wishes to advise political parties and candidates that the deadline for submission of the candidates was on May 16, 2017.

This followed an extension of six days to allow parties time to finalise their respective lists,” Chebukati added.
The interim report of candidates shall be published on the Commission’s website before close of business Friday, May 19, 2017.
