National Super Alliance (NASA) running mate Kalonzo Musyoka is likely to skip the much anticipated presidential running mate debate scheduled for Monday, July 17.

Kalonzo's decision is likely to be informed by the move by Deputy Presidential William Ruto to pull out of the debates to accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to Lamu for campaigns.

Sources close to the presidency intimated Sunday, July 16, that Ruto shall be represented by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa.

Ruto indicated through Twitter that he was not aware of the debate.

He even said that Debates Media Ltd, the organisers of the debates, had not engaged him over the same.

Now there is a likelihood that Kalonzo will as well skip the debate considering he had criticised it early on.

Speaking in Kericho on July 6, Kalonzo defended his boss, Raila Odinga, for pulling out of the debate after Uhuru indicated he wouldn't attend.

Kalonzo said there was no way Raila would go to the debate when his closest rival was not attending.

According to him, Raila and Uhuru should have been allowed to debate among themselves as the other presidential aspirants are little known.

He said they are projects of Jubilee meant to corner Raila.

"I only play in a game involving Messi and Ronaldo. This time round Raila is playing position nine. A final match. Who knows the likes of Dida who cannot even hold campaigns. Raila cannot debate such people. They are Jubilee projects," Kalonzo said.

However, Debates Media Ltd has put everything in place for the debates. It only remains to be seen if the two main running mates will change their minds and attend.
