Saturday, July 8, will go down in the annals of Kenya's history as the day the country woke up to the devastating news of the sudden demise of one of its most abrasive yet effective cabinet secretaries.
Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery had endeared himself to the citizens with his no-nonsense approach to insecurity and breaking of the law, a trait that saw crime reduce significantly and al-Shabaab attacks kept at bay.
Before his appointment as CS, Nkaissery was MP for Kajiado Central on an ODM ticket having previously served in the Kenya Defence Forces to the rank of general.
He joined parliament in 2002 under a KANU ticket then retained his seat in 2007 and 2013 under ODM.
But behind his glittering career in the military and politics was hi wife, Hellen. As reported by TUKO.co.ke, Hellen is admitted after the sudden death of her husband.
In an interview with ******* TV nine months ago, Kenyans got to know who Hellen is.
The mother of four is credited with amassing support that saw her husband become MP and retain the seat in three different elections.
She started initiatives that helped Maasai women and girls, for instance a milk collection and cooling plant which helped getting milk to the KCC.
A farmer herself, Hellen's efforts paid off dearly as it transformed the lives of the Maasai women in Kajiado and beyond.
Hellen was also a Maths/Physics teacher, a job she did until 2002 when Nkaissery joined politics. She quit to concentrate on her husband's ambitions.
She was the first girl to go to school from her area. She was a daughter of a colonial chief.
She is an alumnus of Tumutumu Girls’ High School in Nyeri and the Kenya Science College.
