Peace, integration rule as 91st music festival pulsates

Asumbi Teachers Training College from Nyanza region rocked Kakamega county with their religious folk song titled Musalaba as the 91st Kenya National Music Festival entered the third day at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

The teachers, donned in religious attire and waving crosses kept the audience on the edge of their seats when they took the stage to present the song that dwelt on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to save man kind.

Moi Teachers Training College from Baringo also earned applause from the audience in an entertaining African folk song titled Wero Katukego. Clad in their Leopard skin traditional attire, they took charge of the stage with their energetic dance in a song that highlighted the importance of love among people.

In primary schools category, Wistars from Kiambu county and Githunguri Jet View entertained the guests with their Samburu dances. The songs and dances revolved around the communal harmony as they revealed how intermarriages help in enhancing peace, cohesion and integration.

The importance of the education to the girl-child was also well highlighted by Likoni and Albadru primary schools both from Coast region. Likoni Primary School presented their original composition; Ngonjera expressing the importance of educating the girl-child and protecting them from early marriages.

Albadru emphasised the importance of school children observing discipline for them to succeed in their education. Ali Hassan from Likoni Primary School moved the audience with his original composition solo verse depicting the ruin drug abuse is reigning on the lives of the youth in the country.

The Class Seven pupil revealed how youth are addicted to drugs which eventually turn many of them into zombies, eventually killing most of them. In his verse, he discouraged drug abuse urging the youth to instead focus on their education and constructive activities which will make them live better lives.
